YAY!!!

I'll pass out when I'm DONE writing this.

OK, today at two I had my clinic. I guess I'll tell you about it.

The first thing we did was sign in. (OMG.) I was the first one there, so I was NUMBER ONE. Only two others arrived.

First, they taught us about the sled. There was a boy there that looked 13 or 14 who was part of the luge club, so he was really good. There was a ten year old boy there too-- not so good.

Then they started us out. I was pretty good, and the people gave me tips on the way up. I started higher up the next time, and eventually started at the top of the ramp. I crashed at the end twice because apparently I sucked at stopping.

I went a total of eight times- I was pretty good, but I was dizzy as a dodo after. Imagine going down a hill at twenty miles and hour, feet first. Then lug a fourty pound sled up the 1/4 mile hill.

So essantilly, I lugged a forty pound sled uphill two miles. Fun.

Then we had physical tests- pretty basic. Throwing a ball, shuttle run, jumping, V-Sit and reach. But I was really exhausted, so I kinda sucked then.

I beat the other two at V-Sit and Reach though. I reached a total of 0.5 centimeters. I'm great, I know.

We left after that, and I almost passed out in Kinney's. Then we finally went home. I'm going to go to bed now though. It is 5:05 PM.

I'll blog again soon.

And I got a nifty T-Shirt.

I guess I should tell you guys more about luge, seeing that its my new life-time dream. Haha.

Luge is the Olympic sliding sport where you lie on your back, feet first. If you don't know much about these sports, you might mistake it for skeleton, which is on your belly, head first. (Me? Hahaha- no.)

I started really thinking about the sport when I tried street luge on a field trip. They asked for volunteers to try, and I screamed, "ME!!" and they gave me and a couple others a sled, and a helmet, and we took off to the top of the hill running, sleds trailing behind us like  some bizarre fifty pound dog that has wheels for feet.

When it was my turn, everyone thought I was going to crash into something like the two people to go before me. I was really nervous. The guy showed me  where to put my feet and my body, and showed me how to turn with my legs. (Theres these things sticking out on them, you sorta lean the way you wanna go..)

Then, he gave me a start. I was the first not to scream, I smiled and laughed though, it was just a rush. I slammed the feet on the ground and burned off the feet of my sneakers. (Haha, Chris' shoes still have burn marks)

If I don't immediately succeed at my luge trial coming up soon, I'm going to join the local luge club. Because I am an early teen, they will focus on training me for the Olympics! The coach's at the club actually coach Team USA; does your swim coach also coach Olympic swimmers?

I'll blog again after my trial- I'll tell you all about it! Wish me luck, I cannot wait.

Hey everyone. This is like an advice report that relates to me. So if you are about to give up on something, make the act to read this.

My Example: I love Hershey Track. I started it last year and I was terrible. At the meet last year I didn't win any ribbons for the 200 meter dash, softball throw, or 4 by 100 meter relay. I was one of the slowest kid in the group. But that was last year and I continued it this year because I loved it. And I got a suprise. We started out this year doing a 100 meter dash to see our times. I got 17 seconds and some change. Today I raced again for fun and I came in 1st with 15 seconds. That is close to the fastest girl in the group who is older than me. I had the meet the other day and I did the same events as last year. For softball throw I threw it 81 feet and 3 inches and came in 9th. Not so bad considering it's out of over 20 girls. For the 200, I came in first for my heat and went to the finals to decide who was going to States. I came in 6th out of the 20+ girls doing it and they take the top 4 to states. So close but at least I got a ribbon. Then relay came.We were up against the other teams in my age group from my same team and we came in 1st for our heat and 1st out of ALL the teams for ages 11-12 girls. WE ARE GOING TO STATES WHCH HAPPENS TO BE TOMORROW.

So my point is, don't get discouraged. Keep trying and maybe you'll end up like me: close to a track star. And this quote is my favorite:A winner is someone who gets up one more time than she is knocked down.

Be like amermaid,

~Hadley!

"Luge strategy? Lie flat and try not to die."

Am I mad?

Yes.

Why?

Because I have a luge tryout.

As I've mentioned before, I live near one of the U.S.'s major Olympic facilities, so this is only natural.

I've been reading up on luge lately to get ahead of the game for my tryout, and this is what I've learned:

"Luge" is French for toboggan.
The first Luge sleds were invented by Vikings at about 800 AD.  The first sleds were clunky and unaerodynamic, but the sheer weight of the things made them go quickly.
Luge is the fastest Olympic sport- men's competitors clocking in at 90 MPH.
Luge made its Olympic debut in 1964. Many critics protested that the sport was too dangerous.

What is luge, anyways?
Luge is one of the three sledding sports in the Olympics, and the fastest of the three. Athletes lie down on their back and can use the handle bars, their feet, or their body weight to steer. You go feet first.

You've heard it first hand: LUGE IS AMAZING. I've done street luge, and it was really scary the first time, but then it became pure fun. I tried it on a field trip- I was one of my few classmates daring enough to do it.

I'm hoping to see my friend Chris at my trial- he was way better than me. My friend Nancy crashed into a fence and broke it in half. It was funny! One of my classmates almost hit the bus, and another crashed into a tree. (Ouch!)

Anyways, I have a luge trial in a couple weeks. With a bit of luck, you might see me on screen in 2018 for the Winter Olympics! :O

What are you doing for your end of the year field trips?

We had ours today- I live near one of the only places in the country that houses all of the winter Olympic sports.
We went to a nearby town. The first thing  we did was a luge clinic- its the sled sport where you lie on your back feet first, it was street luge. Only a few of us did it, including me, and I'll tell you, it was SO much fun! I went ten times.
Then we went and did a bob sled clinic. People wanted to do that more, and I only did it six times. It was like a roller coaster, and people generally liked it better than luge. (Not that they can say anything, most of them were to afraid to do the luge... >.<) but I liked luge better. This may have something to do with my irrational hatred of coasters.
We went to a stadium with our lunches and sat on the seats and ate and watched people training for ski tricks- so cool! They were going thirty, forty feet in the air and doing spirals and flips.
Then we went to the ski jumps themselves, the huge ones. We went up to the top of the 120 meter one and saw everything from and athletes perspective. It was really cool.
The last thing we did was go to this dorm/training area, and that was really special. It's the athletes home while training, and the general public isn't allowed inside. We got to look around at everything, and we met a person who actually does professional luge for the USA. He was very nice, but seemed a bit bummed that everyone said they liked bobsled better. My friend and I told him they were pretty much all a bunch of sissies who didn't do it. He cheered up at that.

So! What are you doing for your trips?

I am training for something called the Rock 'N Race. This is something that people do to raise money for Cancer Care. This is the first year I am doing this and am very excited! I am 12 years old BTW. My mom and lil' bro are walking it while my dad and I are running it! It is 3.8 miles (5K). Wish me luck!

After all of the Olympic hype I have made the decision that I want to take ice skating lessons. I'm trying to convince my parents to let me do it at a local skating rink. I know it's absolutely crazy of me, considering that I have EXTREMELY weak ankles (I just recovered from 2 sprains) but it looks like a blast and I'm willing to try it. I don't want to compete or win anything, I just want to skate because it looks like so much fun. After watching Ice Dancing for the first time (now my favorite event!) I knew  I just had to try it. It just looks like so much fun. It looks like dancing, but instead of moving you're gliding and instead of jumping you're flying. I don't have to do any of those big jumps of spins, I just want to be able to skate because it looks so amazingly awesome! I want to know if any of you girls out there are ice skaters and have any tips. Do you like it? How much fun is it? Please let me know! -Keely

Girlies, where have you all been? I got so many responses on my first blog and now it's just been fading to one comment. I blog as frequently as I can. Please don't give up on me!

Also, the olympics have finally ended. I think I really figured out why I was having such a hard time letting them go. I don't do well with loss. You see I lost my pop-pop when I was only 3 and then my great-uncle Charlie about 4 years ago. And I lost one of my cats probably 6 years ago. But the biggest loss of all has been the loss of the home I've grown up in over the summer. I had a house fire that burned the whole upstairs and then water damage did the rest. The only thing I got from the house was one my beloved stuffed animals I've had forever.

Since then, anything that makes me feel safe and secure and comfortable I don't want to let it go. I think it's just that fear of losing things. And to me, I began watching these olympics while I was on vacation with my sister and her BF so I think I just associated them with that comfortableness and safety and happiness I felt 2 weeks ago. Then I kept watching them.

Also, Apolo Ohno wrote the quote "sports imitate life and life imitates sports." So I think in some weird way which I haven't been able to figure out, I see my life reflected through the sports. Maybe through the raw emotion given off by the athletes or the intensity of the sport itself.

So, maybe you'll read this (or maybe you won't) and you might think "um, this makes no sense." Or maybe you'll be able to relate. Or even if you can't relate, maybe you'll just get a sense of how I feel right now.

Today is the last day of the Olympics and I'm even more sad then yesterday!  I wish the Olympics would last longer, but all good things come to an end (unfortunately)!  Well I enjoyed the games while they lasted!  It sucks that we (U.S.) lost to Canada in hockey today!  We play so hard and made such a big come back with 24 seconds left, but we just couldn't pull it off in the end!  I' ve just realized how much I like hockey, it's similar to soccer and is so intense!  I just love the intensity!  Well I'll make sure to watch a lot more hockey next Olympics!  I wish it came around a little more often, not every 4 years!  Hope you guys enjoyed the Olympics as much as I did!  Can't wait 'till the next Olympics!

I can't believe the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics are almost over!  There are 2 more days (including today and tomorrow)!  I am sooo sad! : ( I wish we didn't have to go to school for the Olympics!  Wouldn't that be fun to have a holiday for the Olympics?  I mean this is a once in a lifetime event, it only comes around every 4 years!  Well I'm gonna miss J.R. Celski, Julia Mancuso, Lindsay Vonn, Shaun White, and all of my other favorite Olympians (for another 4 years)!!!  But for now I'm just going to soak in the last few Olympic moments I can catch!  Hope you guys enjoyed the Olympics as much as I did!  I'd have to say some of my favorite Olympic Moments were:

1) Lindsay Vonn winning Gold

2) Apollo Ohno beating Bonny Blares record of 6 (or was it 5?) medals

3) J.R. Celski and Katherine Reutter winning there 1st Olympic Medals

How about you guys?  I'd love to know!  [so write it here...]

So I have another snow day today. If you read my other blogs, I recently had a 6 day weekend due to two snow days and 2 days off. Sure, it's great to have a snow day but now I have to go back for one day during my spring break!

We only get 3 snow days and we've used them all so during my spring break I have to back on a friday and then have the weekend. Pointless, right?

Also, my love Apolo Ohno is RETIRING! That means the two more races he has tonight are his last races EVER! That also means that in 10 years you'll hear "where did these olympians go?" and he'll be working in an office or selling vitamens or something very uncool.

Well, I have to go take a shower.

Wow. I'm watching the Winter Olympics and that guy TOTALLY JUST CRASHED!!!!!

Not that I like it, or anything. But it's kind of funny, even though I bet it hurts to them. I don't know what to do!!!

I'm waiting for Ice Dancing. I love Ice Dancing, don't you? Tonight's Freestyle, the best figure skating EVA!!!!

On a different subject than what everyone's talking about.....

Unlike most people, I saw Percy Jackson and it ROCKED!!!! The book rocked, too, but Logan Lerman is caaaauute!! (My mom likes Pierce Brosnan *winkwink*)

Well, that's all for now!! See ya!!

So, I haven't written a blog in a couple days, sorry. I haven't been busy and I've been coming on here, I just haven't had much to say.

The olympics have been ruling my life! Speed-skating is my new found love. I'm not really the sports type. I did soccer in elementary school and cross country in middle school and I tried track for about a week but I'm just not very athletic. I also don't enjoy watching sports either. However, since the start of the olympics whenever I heard "men's short track" or "apolo ohno" I shriek like a little girl full of extreme happiness.

And having the olympics on has made me feel so patriotic. We're bringing home so many medals, and even though I'm not athletic and I could never dream of doing what these athletes do, I love the olympics. The thought of it ending makes me want to cry! Especially since my love, speed-skating, and my imaginary BF, Apolo Ohno, will no longer be around. You can always watch Shaun White or flick the channel to a hockey game. But what about those other sports? curling or luging or speed-skating. I have to wait 4 years to watch these peopleagain!

And so I leave this blog with one question, or maybemore then one: What do you think of the olympics?Have you been watching? Have you found a new love?
