After all of the Olympic hype I have made the decision that I want to take ice skating lessons. I'm trying to convince my parents to let me do it at a local skating rink. I know it's absolutely crazy of me, considering that I have EXTREMELY weak ankles (I just recovered from 2 sprains) but it looks like a blast and I'm willing to try it. I don't want to compete or win anything, I just want to skate because it looks like so much fun. After watching Ice Dancing for the first time (now my favorite event!) I knew I just had to try it. It just looks like so much fun. It looks like dancing, but instead of moving you're gliding and instead of jumping you're flying. I don't have to do any of those big jumps of spins, I just want to be able to skate because it looks so amazingly awesome! I want to know if any of you girls out there are ice skaters and have any tips. Do you like it? How much fun is it? Please let me know! -Keely

Girlies, where have you all been? I got so many responses on my first blog and now it's just been fading to one comment. I blog as frequently as I can. Please don't give up on me! Also, the olympics have finally ended. I think I really figured out why I was having such a hard time letting them go. I don't do well with loss. You see I lost my pop-pop when I was only 3 and then my great-uncle Charlie about 4 years ago. And I lost one of my cats probably 6 years ago. But the biggest loss of all has been the loss of the home I've grown up in over the summer. I had a house fire that burned the whole upstairs and then water damage did the rest. The only thing I got from the house was one my beloved stuffed animals I've had forever. Since then, anything that makes me feel safe and secure and comfortable I don't want to let it go. I think it's just that fear of losing things. And to me, I began watching these olympics while I was on vacation with my sister and her BF so I think I just associated them with that comfortableness and safety and happiness I felt 2 weeks ago. Then I kept watching them. Also, Apolo Ohno wrote the quote "sports imitate life and life imitates sports." So I think in some weird way which I haven't been able to figure out, I see my life reflected through the sports. Maybe through the raw emotion given off by the athletes or the intensity of the sport itself. So, maybe you'll read this (or maybe you won't) and you might think "um, this makes no sense." Or maybe you'll be able to relate. Or even if you can't relate, maybe you'll just get a sense of how I feel right now. 2 Replies Backatcha!

Today is the last day of the Olympics and I'm even more sad then yesterday! I wish the Olympics would last longer, but all good things come to an end (unfortunately)! Well I enjoyed the games while they lasted! It sucks that we (U.S.) lost to Canada in hockey today! We play so hard and made such a big come back with 24 seconds left, but we just couldn't pull it off in the end! I' ve just realized how much I like hockey, it's similar to soccer and is so intense! I just love the intensity! Well I'll make sure to watch a lot more hockey next Olympics! I wish it came around a little more often, not every 4 years! Hope you guys enjoyed the Olympics as much as I did! Can't wait 'till the next Olympics! 1 Replies Backatcha!

I can't believe the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics are almost over! There are 2 more days (including today and tomorrow)! I am sooo sad! : ( I wish we didn't have to go to school for the Olympics! Wouldn't that be fun to have a holiday for the Olympics? I mean this is a once in a lifetime event, it only comes around every 4 years! Well I'm gonna miss J.R. Celski, Julia Mancuso, Lindsay Vonn, Shaun White, and all of my other favorite Olympians (for another 4 years)!!! But for now I'm just going to soak in the last few Olympic moments I can catch! Hope you guys enjoyed the Olympics as much as I did! I'd have to say some of my favorite Olympic Moments were: 1) Lindsay Vonn winning Gold 2) Apollo Ohno beating Bonny Blares record of 6 (or was it 5?) medals 3) J.R. Celski and Katherine Reutter winning there 1st Olympic Medals How about you guys? I'd love to know! [so write it here...]

So I have another snow day today. If you read my other blogs, I recently had a 6 day weekend due to two snow days and 2 days off. Sure, it's great to have a snow day but now I have to go back for one day during my spring break! We only get 3 snow days and we've used them all so during my spring break I have to back on a friday and then have the weekend. Pointless, right? Also, my love Apolo Ohno is RETIRING! That means the two more races he has tonight are his last races EVER! That also means that in 10 years you'll hear "where did these olympians go?" and he'll be working in an office or selling vitamens or something very uncool. Well, I have to go take a shower. So, I haven't written a blog in a couple days, sorry. I haven't been busy and I've been coming on here, I just haven't had much to say. The olympics have been ruling my life! Speed-skating is my new found love. I'm not really the sports type. I did soccer in elementary school and cross country in middle school and I tried track for about a week but I'm just not very athletic. I also don't enjoy watching sports either. However, since the start of the olympics whenever I heard "men's short track" or "apolo ohno" I shriek like a little girl full of extreme happiness. And having the olympics on has made me feel so patriotic. We're bringing home so many medals, and even though I'm not athletic and I could never dream of doing what these athletes do, I love the olympics. The thought of it ending makes me want to cry! Especially since my love, speed-skating, and my imaginary BF, Apolo Ohno, will no longer be around. You can always watch Shaun White or flick the channel to a hockey game. But what about those other sports? curling or luging or speed-skating. I have to wait 4 years to watch these peopleagain! And so I leave this blog with one question, or maybemore then one: What do you think of the olympics?Have you been watching? Have you found a new love? 1 Replies Backatcha!

Hi. I haven't been on lately & I want to catch all of you up on what I've been doing. MIDWINTER BREAK! No school for a week! So happy! Have any of you been following the Olympics? I have! I've mostly been following figure skating but I did watch mens skiing & womens half pipe(snowboarding). Bode Miller did not get gold for skiing but he did get silver which is still good. Last night, Shaun White was awarded gold for snowboarding. He really is amazing but for a guy, his hair is pretty long, lolz. Torah Miller was amazing & got gold. She represented Australia. Lindsey Vonn(USA) got silver. She was amazing too. I think she was building up to a really coolz trick but then she lost speed & couldn't go for it. She's amazing though(I just repeated it...oops). I love watching figure skating. I know I can't figure skate but watching others is amazing. I watched the couples skate & I'm actually not sure who won. I think China did, the ZHAO/SHEN couple got gold but I wanted Germany to win, the SAVCHENKO/SZOLKOWY couple. They got bronze though. China got silver too. Last night's figure skating was so COOLZ. Mens figure skating(short program) went for so long! I watched with my monkey(her birthday was yesterday, turned 10), my mom & my dad. My mom was really into how perfect each move was. We were so into Evan Lysacek(USA). Each of his moves were absolutely PERFECT. He got the gold. Evgeni Plushenko(Russia) did really well too. He got silver(lolz, I just typed gold). Daisuke Takahashi(Japan) was doing well in his program & then all of the sudden he fell. He got back up & skated towards the ref. He lifted up a leg of his pants & most people thought that the velcro strap of his pants(because when you ice skate, your pants have some kind of velcro to put into the skate) ripped but the laces of one of his skates broke. He had 3 minutes to fix it & he did it. He finished his program & got bronze. I also heard that USA beat China for hockey on the first night 12 to 1. Isn't that amazing. The Olympics sure are interesting. I can't wait until womens figure skating comes on! Go Kristi Yamaguchi! (my dad says) Go Michelle Kwan! Who here has been watching American Idol? OMG I'm so excited for next week when they perform in front of everyone LIVE. I'm so glad that Didi Benami made it. She's one of my faves. My absolute faves that made it through are Didi Benami, Casey James, Katie Stevens, Janell Wheeler & John Park. I'm so excited! I'm going to see the Percy Jackson movie today(& I'm going ice skating). My friends told me it was so messed up. It's a shame because the books are amazing. It's a pretty funny story on how I got to like the books. If you want to hear it, send me a shout out or something. Whew that was a long blog. Thanks for reading it! (if you don't post this that's fine but let me tell you, it took me such a long time to type it & make sure all the details were correct) 1 Replies Backatcha!

Evan Lysacek was just announced as the World Champ for Men's Figure Skating!! Go EVAN! My friend and I were and are rooting for him. Even in Gov't class we made him a candidate for our election. AND he's from IL! More news on other stuff...Team USA received 3...THREE gold medals all in one day... 1 in 1,000m speedskating-SHANI DAVIS. 1 in Men's Halfpipe Snowboarding-SHAUN WHITE. and 1 in Women's downhill skiing-LINDSEY VONN!! We also received silver in 1,000 speedskating and women's downhill skiing. Team USA leads with 18 total medals!! Yay! I am totally bitten by the Olympic Bug! I don't think anyone in my neighborhood is as crazy as I am about the Olympics. Even my cousins are like...who's Apolo Ohno? Who's Lysacek? I'm so happy for Team USA! Everytime the National Anthem played my eyes started to tear up and I imagined how the individual who was standing on that podium felt...! Words cannot describe how awesome I feel right now! It's 11:34pm and I should be getting to sleep...I have to wake up at 6am.... IF you have anything to add about the olympics then go right ahead. I want to hear from you girls. How do you feel about the olympics. 7 Replies Backatcha!

Did anyone else watch the men's snowboarding half pipe last night? It was amazing. All four of the Americans, Shaun White, Louie Vito, Greg Bretz, and Scotty Lago, made it to the finals. Unfortunately, Greg Bretz didn't do too good. He came in 12th. Louie Vito, I thought, did pretty good, but he came in 5th place. Scotty Lago won the bronze medal, and, of course, Shaun White got the gold. Again. He was just...amazing. It was epic. No one else even compared. I got all excited when he won, lol he's my favorite. I love his hair too. It's gorgeous. Normally I only watch these things for the hot guys, but I actually enjoyed watching the snowboarding. But there was a lot of hot guys. =D So yeah. Now I'm watching the women's half pipe, which isn't nearly as entertaining as the men's. They don't do as many cool tricks. And there's no hot guys. But it's still pretty good. =D 1 Replies Backatcha!

Some of you girls may have been watching the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, but many of you have been watching the Short Track Speed Skating!! Speed Skating is a sport that lives up to it's name, just skating but really, really fast. Apolo Anton Ohno, is one of the most famous speed skaters! In 2006 he won the gold and won the silver this year! He is preparing for 1000 m. race. Apolo is on Team U.S.A., so all of us girls should cheer him on! Apolo was born in Seattle on May 22, 1982. When he was 12 years old, he showed interest in short track speed skating. His single father always cheered him on, no matter what. So I think Apolo Ohno is an ispiration to us girls, you can do anything, no matter where you come from! So make sure to watch the Vancouver Winter Olympics, and cheer Ohno on!!

Hey girls!
So, if you haven't been living under a rock, you probably know that the offical cerimony to start the winter Olympics was yesterday, and today is the first day of events. I'm super excited for the Olympics, although I must say that because of the death of the Georgian luger, the Olympics will be a kind of tribute to him, as he's on everyone's hearts this next couple of weeks, which is a good thing.
The Olympics this year are in Vancouver, and as a Canadian it's amazing! The Olympics are on pretty much every channel, Canadians are spontaneously hugging and glued to the TV to cheer for our country, and celeberties and ordinary citizens alike are all getting in on the action! It's a really proud moment for Canadians to have the oppurtunity to host the Olympics and show the world what we're made of. I think that one of the proudest moments will be when a Canadian wins a medal, especially if it's a gold, no pressure :D Sorry if I'm not on in a while, I'll be glued to the TV, cheering Canada on . . . Go Canada go!!!
With glowing hearts, Ali 5 Replies Backatcha!

Luge Training Accident Yesterday morning, olympic luger Nodar Kumaritashvili from Georgia died in a training accident. He was going at 150 kilometers an hour around the track, and at one turn, he flew off the track and smashed his head into a metal post when he landed. He was knocked out cold and wasn't breathing. An ambulance came and the EMS tried to revive him. When he arrived at the hospital he was pronounced dead. I saw this on the news last night. It's really sad because it was his dream to compete in the Olympic Winter Games, but he just didn't make it to the opening ceremony. He was too young to die...He was probably only in his early 20s or something. WAY too young to die. R.I.P Nodar Kumaritashvili, 1988-2010. May he rest in peace. Opening Ceremony Last night was the night of the opening ceremony for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Boy, you should have seen it. It was AMAZING! It had these really cool illusions and once there was this really big bear made out of lights. It came out and actually rose above the ground (It was probably hoisted by a bunch of pullies, though)! Nelly Furtado was singing at the opening ceremonies, too! (In case you didn't know, Nelly Furtado is a Canadian singer) There was an opera singer, as well. (You could tell she was an opera singer because of her voice) My favourite singer was this French man who had an amazingly beautiful voice. He sung a song that was entirely in French, and I could only understand one phrase, but it was the main part of the entire song. The phrase was "C'est beau", which means "It's beautiful". That singer had an amazing voice. Then came the good part: A bunch of athletes, including Wayne Gretzky, the hocky player, lit the cauldron that was inside the stadium. There were a few technical diffuculties, though; 4 or 5 huge posts had to rise from the ground, but only 3 came up. After the cauldron inside the stadium was lit, my favourite part of the ceremonies came. Wayne Gretzky was chosen to light the external cauldron, which was outside. He stood in the back of a truck that drove him to the cauldron, with the torch still lit after 20 minutes, and it was pouring rain outside. How that fire still lives on in extreme weather conditions, I'll never know. Everyone was chasing the truck Wayne was riding in until he got to the cauldron. There, he set the fire onto one of the posts that supports the cauldron. The fire ran all the way up the post and disappeared! For a second, I thought the fire had fizzled out. But then, the cauldrons surrounding the main one caught fire, which I had hoped for. Then, the fire reached the main cauldron, and the main cauldron caught fire, too! Everyone cheered in joy, and the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics began. Toodles! -Calista P.S. If this doesn`t get approved, I will cry. 12 Replies Backatcha!
