Why I dislike Twilight. C&N please!!

from Maine, USA
on Sunday, November 16, 2008

Hey, you guys! I haven't been on Allykatzz in forever, but now that I have come back on and seen all they Twilight blogs, I thought it would be a good idea to voice my opinion on this "vampire" series. In late July of 2007, after I'd finished reading the seventh Harry Potter book, I decided to find another good series to read. Alot of my friends raved about Twilight, but I wasn't so sure. But after a while of having nothing to read, I picked it up anyway. After reading Twilight, I got hooked and read the next two novels, but got sad again when I had nothing to read, so I reread Twilight. When I reread it, I started to really hate it. The characters were so bland, Bella was so paranoid and annoying, and Edward was really creepy. I started questioning why I even liked the series to begin with. Now that thats out of the way, here is why I dislike Twilight: For one, the characters are very 1-demensional. Bella has no flaws pointed out in the books. She is described as normal and boring and not beautiful like her stunning boy friend, which is why alot of the readers can relate to Bella. But does that make her a very good character? No, it doesn't. Number 2, Bella and Edward's relationship. Their relationship, IMO, is horrible. They claim to be in love, but they aren't. Its lust. Edward loves the way Bella smells, and Bella love the way Edward looks. How in the world is that love? Another thing about their relationship is the abuse that gets confused with love. What abuse am I talking about? I'm talking about when Edward forbade Bella from visiting her best friend, Jacob, in Eclipse by taking out the engine from her truck and having his sister and mother have a "sleep over" with her, but it wasn't a sleep over, they kidnapped her and kept her at the Cullen's for the weekend. Number Three, The bad message it sends to young readers: Alot of my friends, when done reading the series, wanted their Edward Cullen because he's "so cute and awesome". But what is so awesome about Edward? In New Moon, when he left Bella, Bella nearly killed herself twice just be with him. How is that a good message to send to girls? And also, in Eclipse when the couple was about to do you-know-what, Edward says that he won't do that with her until they get married, but Bella to marry him only if she can do that when she's human. So pretty much, Bella marries Edward so that she will can do that with him. How on Earth is that a good message? I'll stop here even though there are alot more reasons why I don't like the series. If you want to have a discussion, please do. I would very much enjoy it. But please, read the the sign. I HATE bad grammar way more than I hate Twilight.

“ok this backatcha is to whoever commented that the twilight fans will get mad when they read this blog. first of all, this is america. and what do you get in america? freedom of speech!!! DUH! and this girl gets to have her opinions on what she doesnt like and what she does like. she can be oppisite than most girls on here!!! im not taking sides or anything, but no one cares about if the twilight lovers dont like this blog. she doesnt have to like twilight!!!!!!! AND FOR PETE SAKES ITS A BOOK!!! THIS IS SO SO STUPID!!!!! this is like when my friend wanted my pencil so bad she forced me to give it to her. OH CMON!!”

from TeamJacob♥ on Nov 19 at 04:51 PM
“I disagree. I luv twilight soooooo much. Its the best book I have ever read. And I have read ALOT of good books. Sure the characters are wierd but thats what makes the story interesting. I could go on and on disagreeing with everything you said there, but I'll stop myself now. Oh and the fact that this was on coolest & Newest is.....sad....and stupid. No offense or anything.”

from TrumpetTriplet on Nov 18 at 04:09 PM
“I don't like the style of writing, it doesn't get very deep and is mainly geared towards junk reading, its ok for the moment, but ONLY for the moment, it will be a craze, but will never be fought over in by english professors or used as a example of extraordinary literature ”

from HeyWazzup on Nov 18 at 03:43 PM
“Wow. LOL. I just read all of the comments before this one. If you read them, it's actually kinda funny! And SpareMyHeart, I have to say, I kind of agree with you. I haven't read the books, and I know people are gonna jump on me for judging it without reading it, but well, I don't think they look very good. They seem boring, they aren't sending a very good message to girls (I could see that from just reading parts of it and Barnes and Noble), and well, admit it people, they aren't even CLOSE to as good as Harry Potter!!! Harry is a classic, and not even Twilight is gonna be able to change that. P.S. Love the sign!!!!!”

from ~*CloverrTwilightGirlie*~ on Nov 18 at 12:32 PM
“Um I went spastic! Twilight has a well developed plot! You must not know what you are talking about.....”

from xXSpareMyHeartXx on Nov 17 at 05:27 PM
“I totally understand where you guys were coming from, and thanks, Mercy, for saying that. My problem with the series is how popular they are when they're not very well written, they have no clear plot, and no well developed characters. Even though I disagree with you all, except Misa-Misa, I won't tell you that you're stupid for liking the books. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and thats your opinion. And to be honest, you guys are really nice compared to some mega Twihards on Twilight fansites who go completely crazy when you say one bad thing about the books. I have also realized that its not just the books that I don't like, its Stephenie Meyer's writing that I don't like. I have read part of The Host, and I don't like it. I think SMeyer is a great person, I just don't like her writing style and I don't like how she got her novels published and other authors on fan fic sites who write way better than she does can barely even get publishers to look at their works. Thanks, you guys, for reading my blog and not going spastic, I really appreciate it!!”

from xDontGiveintoPainx on Nov 17 at 04:19 PM
“i disagree, but that's your opinion. mine is that Bella was just created like that. she's supposed to be like that to at least make the story even more interesting. it's about forbidden love - and i guess some ppl just don't have taste in that kind of thing. i am a complete Twilight fan, and I do understand that there will be people who are against Twilight. and i'm fine with that. so thank you for sharing your opinion - and i promise you, i'm not mad”

from Russia*Approves on Nov 17 at 03:10 PM
“FINALLY, somebody who has taste.-_- i was beginning to think i was the only one who hated twilight...>_>”

from LivingProof♥ on Nov 17 at 02:10 PM
“well, like the other girls have said. one, it wasn't meant to be a teen/tween book at first. and, the main character is 17-18, so it's going to be mature. yeah, i don't want to say anything else to get my head bitten off. and, i dont want to make you mad. it's your opinion and thats fine. :) ”

from OMGitsME on Nov 16 at 06:46 PM
“I loved it when I first read it, but after I reread it three times. I started realizing how annoying and anti-feminist Bella really is. I still love the series...but she irks me, thats all. (=”

from emoluvee♥ on Nov 16 at 06:37 PM
“Everyone stop being so harsh to SpareMyHeart! She is just voicing her opinions. I love Twilight myself, but I'm not going to start saying mean things to her. Can't people have a right to be entitled to THEIR own opinions? Can't we act more mature than this, and not get so offended? Please? Anyways my opinion is Bella and Edward are sooo much in love. Edward loves Bella, how he always cares much for her, protects her. Like for example people's parents are ALWAYS overlly protective, and that means then really care and love you, and that's just how Edward is. Now Bella, she cherish's every moment with Edward, like Edward does with Bella. They would do anything for eachother, without eachother they like really wouldn't exist. They never take eachother for granted, and they just are so happy when they are near eachother, that's why they cherish the moments because one day everything might of dissapeared. Everyday Bella wants Edward to be with her, she wants him. I know she would die for him, and he would most definatally die for her. Also I think Bella's starting off personality makes the book what it is. It's the best love story I've EVER read in my life and I reccomend it. The point is, this is just mine and that was yours SpareMyHeart. Remember other girls don't be so rude to SpareMyHeart she is JUST voicing her opinions, and she's not being rude to anyone ”

from ~*CloverrTwilightGirlie*~ on Nov 16 at 06:28 PM
“Um number 1 if u don't have anything nice to say about twilight don't say anything at all. Everything u said in this blog is not true! Bella and Edward are in luv cuz they would die for one another and it I'd not just lust. You must be blind. Go twilight the best book in the world and sparemyheart knows it is. It will always be better then harry potter.”

from sk8r_chick_09 on Nov 16 at 05:46 PM
“I realize that you have your own opinion but ARE YOU CRAZY OR BLIND? I think you should reread twilight and pay a lot more attention.”

from xXSpareMyHeartXx on Nov 16 at 05:12 PM
“Aww, Airgirl, your message made me cry a little. You are probably the only person, besides myself, on AK who thinks Twilight is junk reading.”

from Airgirl2010 on Nov 16 at 05:05 PM
“Twilight was never meant to be a teen book. It was meant to be one of those cheap paper back vampire romances for adults, but one day, S.M. got a call saying she was going to get published in Y.A. So, it isn't really supposed to be sending messages to girls. It is, no matter how you look at it, junk reading. It is fun. It's doesn't have many messages. And yes, I do agree H.P. is much better.”

from xXSpareMyHeartXx on Nov 16 at 04:37 PM
“I so know how you feel, TwilightLuver. My mom would have flipped her wig if she knew what was actually in the books. But that doesn't matter anymore since she knows that I don't like the series.”

from xXSpareMyHeartXx on Nov 16 at 04:32 PM
“LyssJonas, I do agree with you about the no personality thing, but I think that Bella getting pregnant was such a horrible addition to the story. I might have liked BD if Stephenie Meyer hadn't made everyone like Nessie. I think Nessie might've been a good character if the other vamps didn't like her. She seems like a very creepy character too, seeing as how she grows up really fast and is very smart at such a young age. I also pitty her because she won't have a normal childhood. In seven years she'll marry a man who changed her diapers and everyone in the story is okay with it. Stephenie Meyer should get a new publisher because the Twilight Saga(if you can even call it a saga) is a failure, in my opinion.”

from ♥Emmett's♥Teddy♥Bear♥ on Nov 16 at 04:25 PM
“i understand that that is why i dont like edward he is a little ok ALOT over protective i like the book though because it is fun to read but i definetly understand what you are saying now that i think of it my parents probably would not let me read it if they know that”

from CrushCrushCrush_Alyssa on Nov 16 at 04:21 PM
“I disagree, but there is one thing about Bella: she has no personalitly. Then she gets married and has a kid and gets more interesting. Lol. But thats your opinion.”

from ~*amber*~ on Nov 16 at 04:12 PM
“i disagree ,but it is your opinion .”

from xXSpareMyHeartXx on Nov 16 at 04:07 PM
“ ~*imaGINAtion, you're right, the books are immensly popular, and I understand why the are popular among pre-teen and teenage girls. Its because of Bella. Bella is a normal, average girl who doesn't veiw herself as beautiful, but she ends up getting this gorgeous boyfriend and future husband. Because Bella is so "normal" the readers can relate to her and want her life, which is how I got hooked.”

from xXSpareMyHeartXx on Nov 16 at 03:58 PM
“Mercy, I'm glad you like the sign, I am actually thinking of making a blog about poor grammar on the internet, but I would really like to know why you think Bella and Edward are in love. I have asked numerous Twilight fans why B&E "love" each other and they have all come up empty with answers.”

from ~*imaGINAtion*~ on Nov 16 at 03:55 PM
“Well, I think they have had conversations, but maybe we have different opinions on what we think is "decent". I have read Harry Potter and the OotP, and I know what you're saying about the whole flaw thing. Twilight isn't the most practical or best book, agreed, but it's still something a lot of people like nonetheless.”

from emoluvee♥ on Nov 16 at 03:47 PM
“I'm Mercy xD and I'm writing this on my personal allykatzz but I do disagree on this. I know your voicing your opinion, and you're entitled to your opinon. I'm just saying they are sooo madly in-love with eachother. I really agree with Adeleade. It is sad it made it on C&N but yeah. I love the sign though. It's funny and I feel the same way about the sign; not the blog.”

from xXSpareMyHeartXx on Nov 16 at 03:45 PM
“ LOvePeaCe, how are Bella and Edward in love? ”

from xXSpareMyHeartXx on Nov 16 at 03:44 PM
“Adeleade, you're right. I knew what I was up for when I posted this. I did it to voice my opinion and to get comments so that I could discuss how I feel about the book. ~*imaGINAtion*~, I see where you are coming from too, but the two things I don't agree with you on are Bella's flaws and Edward and Bella's love. Bella's only flaw, IMO, is her stupidity. I don't consider her clumsyness a flaw, because it doesn't get her into trouble. Whereas in Harry Potter and the OotP, if you've read it, when Harry goes to the Department of Mysteries to save Sirius but ends up getting Sirius killed. That happens because Harry has this "saving people" thing that results in them getting into trouble or Harry getting into trouble. As for the love thing, I don't consider what B&E have as love because you never see how they fell in love. Not once in the entire sereis do B&E have a decent convorsation that doesn't involve Bella telling Edward how beautiful he is or Edward telling Bella what she means to him. They never get into arguments and when they do, Bella automatically surrenders to Edward and admits that she's wrong, which isn't right.”

from Mercy'sPhotography♥ on Nov 16 at 03:41 PM
“Well I disagree but you're just voicing your opinion and everyone has a right too.”

from SunshineMuffin on Nov 16 at 03:30 PM
“After I read this, I realized that it made 'Coolest & Newest.' >=/ That's sad. Because most people read the blogs on C&N and now they're going to have to see THIS and it's going to get a lot of Twilight fans mad at you. No offense, but I'm sure you were aware of that even before you posted this. Seriously, you shouldn't of pointed out YOUR dislikes about Twilight, well I mean you can, but you shouldn't of had this posted on C&N. And the fact that Ally's Gang approved this for C&N is even more dissapointing. So just a heads up, tons of Twilight fans are going to be mad at this blog. AND you gave away a lot of details about the second and third book. Are we not a lot to read them first before someone ruins it for us? Yes, we're all intitled to our own opinion but honestly, you made a mistake. >=/”

from Webkinz Gang on Nov 16 at 03:28 PM
“i've never read the book...”

from ~*imaGINAtion*~ on Nov 16 at 03:28 PM
“I totally see where you're coming from, but I disagree. I don't find Bella as just normal and boring. She has flaws, she trips on flat surfaces, she is just the girl everyone is. Maybe at first their relationship was purely lust, but then it turned into love. Edward put aside the fact that she smelled terrific, and everyone thought Edward was gorgeous. They got to know eachother, and they had things in common. And the things Edward did was for protection. This is pretty far from things that can happen in real life, but he had his reasons cuz they life in a world of vampires and werewolves, and we don't. And about Bella marrying Edward, if they were both human, she probably wouldn't use that as a factor, but this is about losing her mortality, about losing the fact that she won't be human, which I think is a pretty big thing. Wow, sorry, but I am kinda protective about this whole Twilight thing, but I understand what you mean. It's all just a matter of opinion.”

from shelbys816 on Nov 16 at 03:27 PM
“wow... ur opinion made me kinda laugh... but some of it is true!! PROPS FOR U FOR SPEAKING YOUR MIND!! ”

from xXSpareMyHeartXx on Nov 16 at 03:25 PM
“I think you mean Forbidden Love, but what type of mind is that, because I'd really like to enjoy the books just as much as all the Twihards do, but its hard for me.”

from OMG-Its-Dylan! on Nov 16 at 03:22 PM
“I disagree. No offense but it takes a certain mind to overlook that and see into the real meaning of the story as unforbiden love. ”
